Seven people went fishing. The median number of fish caught was 4, the mean was 5 and the mode was 3. How many fish might each person have caught

Since there are seven people and median is 4, the fourth highest has to catch 4 fishes

 

Now three persons would have caught lesser and the other 3 would have caught more than 4 fishes

 

Since 3 is the mode , lets assume all 3 people who have caught less than 4, have caught 3 fishes each

 

Now the mean is 5 i.e. there were 35 fishes caught in all.

 

So they might have caught in this order

 

3,3,3,4,6,8,8   or   3,3,3,4,7,7,8   or 3,3,3,4,6,7,9  .... many such combinations
