I assume you mean a Pythagorean triangle....
by which you mean you have a right triangle with side lengths 5, and 12
If these are the two sides and the unknown is the hypotenuse (side across
from the right angle) then we use the Pythagorean theorem:
a2 + b2 = c2 where c is the length of the hypotenuse
52 + 122 = c2
25 + 144 = c2
169 = c2
√169 = c
13 = c
The length of the hypotenuse is 13
