I tutor because I want to help students and because it is my passion.
I think it is better to go through the steps of solving it:
Problem: -12 + 5k = 15 + 4k
Step 1: Bring all expressions with the unknown k on one side: 5k - 4k = 15 + 12
Step 2: Add together expressions on each side: 1k = 27
Step 3: Divide the 27 by the factor of k which is 1: k = 27/1 = 1 => k = 27
Step 4: Verify your answer by replacing k with 27: 5k - 4k = 15 + 12
5(27) - 4(27) = 15 + 12
135 - 108 = 15 + 12
27 = 27 Good!!
