Hi Alyssa--
call your number n.
n multiplied by 8 = 8n, which you then divide by 4 and get 2n
2n = n + 7 so
2n - n = 7, so
n = 7.
Thought of another way, "multiplied by 8 and divided by 4" is the same as "multiplied by 2."
To check that 7 is correct: 7 x 8 = 56, divided by 4 = 14, which equals 7 + 7.
