Hi Elsa,
The first step in solving this problem is to find out how much of a profit Ramie makes on a single t-shirt. We do this by subtracting his material costs ($3.25) from his selling price ($5.00):
$5.00 - $3.25 = $1.75 profit
Again, this is the profit from selling one t-shirt. In other words, it is the profit per t-shirt sold. To find out how many shirts he must sell to make a profit of $12.25, we take his target profit of $12.25 and divide by his profit per t-shirt sold ($1.75):
$12.25 profit ÷ $1.75 profit/t-shirt = 7 t-shirts.
Ramie must sell 7 t-shirts to make a profit of $12.25. Hope this helps!
