If one were to look at this equation carefully, the equation could be reworded in a different but similar scenario:

 

a(b)=(b)a where a(b) is just the inverse of (b)a (Commutative Property of Multiplication)

 

Similarly, if a=7 then you get the scenario from the given equation:

 

7(b)=(b)7=12(7).
