( 8x/3(x-7) ) -3=-19

( 8x/3(x-7) ) =-16     [add 3 to both sides]

  8x = -16( 3(x-7) )      [multiply both sides by 3(x-7) ]

  8x = -48x + 336          [expand]

  56x = 336               [add 48x to both sides]

      x = 6                    [divide both sides by 56]

 

Checking (very important):

  Is  ( 8(6)/3(6-7) ) - 3 = -19     ?

        48/(-3) -3 = -19      ?

          -16 - 3 = -19    ?

             -19   =  -19   ?  yes
