Solve using proportions

One-fourth cup of mixed nuts contains 6 grams of protein. How many grams of protein are in 2 cups of mixed nuts

Our setup here is as follows:

1/4 : 6 = 2 : x ... where variable "x" represents the number of grams of protein in 2 cups of mixed nuts.

If 1/4 cup contains 6 grams of protein, then 2 cups (8 times as many nuts) contains 48 grams of protein.

Therefore x = 48.
