The x-intecept of a line on a graph is where y=0 and the y-intercept is where x=0. You have the point-slope formula for a line y=mx+b or y=1/2x+5. Clearly the y-intercept is 5 as you stated. The x-intercept is found by setting y=0 and solving for x or 1/2x+5=0. Then the x-intercept is -10. If you plot a line with slope 1/2 about the point (0,5) it should inersect the x-axis at -10. You can use slope (rise/run) from (0,5) to (0,x) to show x=-10, y=-5 as x/y=1/2.
