-10=x+12 I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to algebra

I am new to college and I haven't a clue about algebra. I get so confused with what to do.

To solve for x,  you first have to get it on one side of the equation by itself.
 
For this problem, you can subtract 12 from each side:
 
-10 = x+12
-12       -12
____________
-22 = x
