Brad wants to buy flowers for his friend with $27. The daisies are $1 each and the roses are $3 each. He buys 3 more daisies than roses. How much did the roses cost?

I think you meant how many roses did he buy?

 

If not, then the easy answer is $3 each! :)

 

But assuming you meant how many roses did he buy:

 

We must find the value for the number of daisies bought, d, which satisfies the following equation:

 

$27 = $1(d) + $3(d - 3)

 

Using the very sophisticated guess and check method we find that the answer is:

 

 

d = 9

 

Therefore, the number of roses bought is 6.

let number of roses he buys be x 

then number of daisies will be x+3 

cost of x roses is 3x $ and cost of x+3 daisies is x+3 $ 

total cost = 3x+x+3 = 27 

 

ie 4x=24

x=6

so number of roses is 6
