b) How much would Mr. Preston save with the better offer?

 

c) One man earns $34,092 per year. A second man earns $2,625 per month. How much more does the first man earn in a month than the second man?

 

d) Kelly bought 8 bags of chips at 80 cents a bag to share with her 3 friends. The 4 of them were going to divide the coat equally. How much would each person, including Kelly, pay for the chips?

 

e) Peter bought 8 drinks for $15.60. Peter knew that the drinks were 90 cents each. How much did each hot-dog cost?

Choice #1 is better because choice #2 is $186 [60 + 9(14)].  You save $11 (the difference from $175) from paying upfront.

 

In question c, just divide the first man's yearly salary by 12 to compare him to the monthly guy.  You get $2,841, which is $216 more a month.

 

In question d, multiply 0.80 x 8 to get 6.40.  Then, you divide that by 4 (since it includes Kelly) to get $1.60.

 

In question e, it's not worded properly--all the info is on drinks, then you ask about hot dogs.  I suspect you meant "Peter bought 8 drinks and hotdogs for $15.60".  If that is the case, multiply 0.90 x 8 to get the drinks ($7.20).  Then, subtract this from $15.60 and divide the answer by 8 for the hotdogs.  You should get $1.05 as your answer.
