M is simply some number. Let's make this more simple. Forget about the M, pretend yesterday Charmaine had 10 baseball cards, and today she gained 11 more. How would you figure out how many she had? You know this, it's simply 10 + 11 = 21. Now, I said 10 is how many we had yesterday, so replace that 10 with this variable, M. M is simply a placeholder so that we can make it any number we want.
Therefore, the Equation would be M + 11 = Total
