1) Expanded the equation.

24.6/4 + 3x/4 = -2x + 2x + 2(4.77)

 

2) Collect like terms.

 

Hint: You will notice that the x terms on the right cancel out.

 

3) Put the terms containing an x on one side of the = sign and those not containing an x on the other with, correct signs.

 

Hint: Subtract 24.6/4 from both sides of the = sign

 

4) Isolate the x

 

Hint: Divide both sides by the coefficient of x. Remember division is just multiplication of the inverse.

1. Distribute the 2: (24.6+3x)÷4=-2x+2x+9.54
2. The -2x and 2x will cancel out: (24.6+3x)÷4=9.54
3. Multiply both sides by 4: 24.6+3x=9.54*4
4. Subtract 24.6 on both sides: 3x=9.54*4-24.6
5. Divide both sides by 3: x=(9.54*4-24.6)/3 = 4.52
