I'm a graduate of the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry with seven years of tutoring experience. In 2017, I relocated to the San Francisco/East Bay area to work with an education nonprofit organization and am excited to support local students in their educational journey.

I've tutored on a regular basis since the start of my junior year in college, mainly in math and science for elementary through college students. I believe that the most productive progress can be made with the one-on-one interaction tutors can have with students. With this interaction, I can tailor my teaching methods and customize an explanation for a difficult concept. Being a part of a student's learning progress and helping them reach their potential is very fulfilling, and seeing how a student can surprise themselves with their own abilities is the best thing a tutor can ask for.

I've taken up to Calculus BC in high school, and Multivariable Calculus at UCR. I understand the concepts, but I can also explain them using applicable examples. Really, math is like a language; you need to know the basics before you get speaking fluently. If a return to basics is necessary, I encourage reviewing previous subjects in order to succeed in current and future studies. I always tell my students that math can be explained in different ways and that they shouldn't be discouraged, because we can find another way to understand.

If there is anything you do not understand, or if you want to get ahead, please feel free to contact me! I'll try my best to help you learn!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I've taught ACT Math/Science at various tutoring centers. Depending on the student's needs, I recommend one-on-one if they are getting started or have not learned all of the math concepts. If they have been preparing for the actual ACT, I would recommend group settings so they can learn from other students and focus on strategies. I'm knowledgeable in the necessary concepts and strategies that may be employed to succeed in the timed exam.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've taken math courses, including algebra 1 and 2, and have enjoyed both thoroughly. With the help of my own algebra tutor, I was able to understand foreign concepts and now fully comprehend the material. Knowing algebra is essential for success in future math courses, so I make sure my students gain confidence in algebra before moving onto more difficult concepts.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I've taken Algebra II up to Calculus BC in high school. I used what I learned in order to tutor other students in various math subjects since my junior year in college.
Calculus

Calculus

I've taken Calculus AB and Calculus BC in high school and passed both exams. At UCR, I've taken additional calculus courses in sequences and series, and two quarters of Multivariable Calculus, where calculus concepts are applied to 3 dimensions.
Chemistry

Chemistry

Received a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry at UC Riverside. Took intensive courses in organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, environmental, and theoretical chemistry. Tutored high school students in chemistry for two years, helping them prepare for upcoming AP exams.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I took several differential equations courses at UC Riverside where I learned how to derive these equations and learned from a mathematical perspective. The concepts from these courses were then applied within my major courses including chemistry, physics, and biology. From my experience, I can teach differential equations concepts with a mathematical approach or by using real-world examples.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

In my two years as a private tutor, I've spent time with elementary students, usually 3rd-6th grades, with their school work, homework, and getting ahead. I looked over homework problems and broke down difficult math problems and used relatable examples to help the students truly understand the concepts. I've interacted with students outside of the tutoring environment as I was a Sunday school teacher for several years at my local church, teaching students ranging from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade. I enjoy working with elementary students because I am part of their learning process, as they are mine.
Geometry

Geometry

I consider geometry to be my strongest subject in mathematics, since I enjoy the technicalities, and the concepts naturally made sense to my technical mind. After tutoring many students in geometry and its concepts in exams such as the SAT and ACT, I've found creative ways to explain geometry. Some concepts can be imagined with visual examples such as area, volume, surface area. Others such as angles and trigonometry can be explained with logic as well as real-world examples. I enjoy teaching geometry because students can find the best way that geometry makes sense for them.
GRE

GRE

I am familiar with the GRE questions as I personally took the general GRE exam during Summer 2014. Previously, I took two GRE prep courses, one from Kaplan, and am also familiar with the test strategies. I would be able to help with learning the material present on the exam as well as teaching strategy.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I took the general SAT and Math II subject test (780/800). Since high school, I've taught SAT Math and study skills at a tutoring center.
