I need help on an algebra word problem!!

Question

A cylindrical cooking pot has a diameter of 26cm and a height of 15cm. What is the volume of the pot, i.e.: how much water can it hold? Give answers in liters and gallons.

This problem involves mutiplication and also understanding the conversion factors for gallons and liters. cylinder is base times height. consider 26cm then reduce to radius, you have now 13 cm take that and get your pi r squared.

 

Equation reads, 169 cm2 x 22/7. Let's use a calculator. It's 531.143. Multiply by height, we get 7967.15. A liter is 1000 cubic centimeters. Thats about 8 liters.

 

A gallon is 3.78 liters. Division is used to finish the problem.

The formula for volume of a cylinder is V = πr²h, where r = radius of the base, and h = height. Remember that radius = 1/2 diameter. So the radius = 26/2 = 13 cm.

 

So that's V = π(13)²15 = 7963.9 cm³  Divide by 1000 to get liters, so that's 7.9639 L. Or let's call it 8.0 L. We then divide by 3.785 to change L to gal, so that's = 2.1 gal
