We can write an equation using the variable and info given.

 

x + 0.10x - 0.10(x + 0.10x) = 44

 

Solve for x.

 

 

Distribute to get rid of parenthesis.

 

x + 0.10x - 0.10x - 0.01x = 44

 

0.99x = 44

 

      x = 44.44
