You were close - the only thing you missed was putting the x on the outside of the parenthesis. That would have been multiplying both the 15 and the 5 by 'a number'.
(15+5x) - (-8x)
(15+5x) - (-8x)
(15 + 5x) + 8x (2 negatives make a positive)
(15 + 13x) (combine like terms)
It's not an equation because there is no equal sign, so it stays at 15 + 13x
