Timothy,  when you multiplied equation 1  by a factor of 2 and then subtracted equation 2... you didn't put parentheses around equation two so it looks like you added wrong to get   y=6.  I realize you didn't, but looking at the following:
 
  2x + 4y = 20
- 2x + 3y = 14
 
It looks like you should get 7y=34
 
Just in order to not confuse the students, we should use parentheses
 
  2x + 4y = 20
-(2x +3y = 14)
 
  2x + 4y = 20
 -2x - 3y = -14
____________
          y  = 6
 
Just a friendly note.  When I first glanced at it I thought you had added it wrong.
