The following is a spoiler and contains the answer:
You must not have a nice teacher! essentially you need to think of of this as a 360 degree compass where North is top and East is right. This means that if North is 0 degrees, then east is 45degrees (we're going clockwise here to make it easier, but don't make a habit of this). First, i would suggest drawing a circle. Make it big so you can put a triangle in there. Second i want you to draw two lines, the first one should be a strait up and down solid line and the second should be a dotted left to right line. the top should say N for north and the right should have an E for east. The triangle you're drawing will more or less be a single line in the sense that the other two are the outer line of the circle and the verticle line you used to show north. about halfway between N and E is where your line should be (45/2 is about 23). now you have a simple answer to a complicated problem where your answer is an acute triangle

where i said 45 here, it should be 90, and where i say HALF i should say 1/4 closest to north08/29/12
