Solve using algebra.

Yvette walks at 4 mph to the
grocery store, shops for an hour,
then takes a bus averaging 24 mph
back home. If the entire trip takes
2.75 hours, how far away is the
store?

You neglected to take into account the hour spent shopping
The ride back is represented by  d = 24(2.75 - 1 - t)   or  d = 24(1.75-t)
