8 people are going on vacation for 7 daya. The house they are renting is 3,800 dollars a week. 5 people are staying 7 days. 1 person is staying 4 days. 2 people are staying 2 days. How much does each person owe?

Setting up the equation:

5 people x 7 days: 5a x7= 35 a

1 is staying 4 days: 1a x 4= 4a

2 people staying 2 days : 2 a x 2 = 4 a

 

35a + 4 a + 4 a = $3800

43 a = $3800

a= 3800/43=$88.37

 

5 people will pay 35a=$88.37 X 35=$3092.95.  3092.95 /5 = $618.59.

1 person will pay 4a = $88.37 x 4 = $353,48.

2 persons will pay 4a= $88,37 x 4 = $353.48.

 

The reason it does not exactly come out to $3800 is because we rounded off 3800/43.
