a grocer has 200 grams of coffe blend that is 1/4 regular and 3/4 decaf. She wants a mixture that will be 75% regular. How many grams of regular coffe should she add

(3/4)(200) = 150 g = amount of decaf before additions

 

Let x = number of grams of regular coffee to be added

 

Then, x + 50 = amount of regular coffee after additions

 

200 + x = total amount of mixture

 

We want:  75% of total amount = amount of regular

 

So, 0.75(200 + x) = x + 50

 

150 + 0.75x = x + 50

 

-.25x = -100

 

x = 400 g
