I would suggest using a calculator.  

If your calculator has an e^x key then enter 0.5 and press e^x.  

If your calculator doesn't have an e^x key but it has a key for e then press e to get the value of e and then press the square root key to get e^(1/2).  The (1/2) power is the same as the square root.  You might need to reverse the order and press the square root key first depending what kind of calculator you have.  

If you don't have any e keys on your calculator then try taking the square root of 2.718281828

Hi Erin-- I agree with Edward but wanted to put it a little differently. Whenever there is a fraction as an exponent, you can read it as the numerator being the exponent but the denominator is the number related to the radical. If the denominator is 2, the number would be square rooted. If the number is 3, the number should be cube rooted. I hope that helps clarify!
