Any example involving design of some 'thing' and then production of said 'thing' in repetition will follow a similar pattern when we need to pay a one-time fee to a designer and then a repetitive cost to a manufacturer...possibly design and manufacturing is handled by one in-house organization or person who bills us the collective sum for both tasks...as was the case in this problem.
