Math has a pattern. It is like a puzzle. At each level you get new "tools" for your "toolbox," and they work with older tools you have already learned.
The first step is to figure out what the problem is asking you to do (add, multiply, etc.).
The second step is to figure out what the question is (how many feet, minutes, etc.).
Then look at the "tools" you are learning in the chapter and how you might use them.
