Ben would like to purchase a guitar that normally cost $210 but is on sale for 35% off the regular price. Ben earns $6.90 per hour at his job and plans to save 1/2 his total earning to purchase the guitar. Will Ben have enough money for the guitar after working 50 hours. Use estimation to show if your answer is reasonable.

First figure out how much the guitar is worth.

210 - 210(.35) = 210 - 73.5 = 136.5, the amount of money he needs to save

 

So he plans to save half of what he earns in 50 hours

 

6.90(50 ) = 350 and now you take half

 

350/2 = 175 which is greater than 136.5
