You can do the following:

 

x³ + x² + 5x + 5 =

(x³ + x²) + (5x + 5)

 

Factor x² out of (x³ + x²) and factor 5 out of (5x + 5), to get:

 

x² (x + 1) + 5 (x + 1)

 

Notice that both terms have x + 1 as a factor.  So you can factor that out and get:

 

(x² + 5) (x + 1)
