Part A: It is only asking about how much the companies changed, so it does not matter that Company A's change is negative and Company B's change is positive. Compare Company A's number to zero and compare Company B's number to zero. Find that difference (subtraction) between them.
17.50-12.50= 5
Company B's price changed $5 more per share than Company A's.
Part B: I have never had to draw an arc on a number line. I would need to see the book to help with that. I can't even find that concept online. Sorry.
Part C: In order to not lose any money, you would need to earn 0 or more. Because Company A has a negative number, we need to figure out what number we could earn with Company C in order to even out at 0.

Company C would need to change $12.50 in the positive direction.
