There are a few ways that you can do this, one way that I would suggest is to use one of the shape tools whether that be the rectangle tool, the ellipse tool, the polygon tool, or even the star tool, and then drawing a shape. Then locate the Menus up top and click on Window > Swatches. A small panel should open that contains all of your swatches. Afterward you will locate small logo that looks like a collection of books in the lower left hand corner. If you click on that you can look through its presets and see what all it has to offer You can then click and drag colors to a folder that is back in the swatches panel. Or, while still looking at the swatches panel if you locate a small plus icon to the far right, right beside of the trash can icon, you can use that to add in a new swatch color, as long as you know the correct hex code values of the color you want you can add it in that way as well.
