This time, the kite is divided into 4 triangles, but there are 2 pairs of congruent triangles.
1) Find the area of the first set of congruent triangles.
For each triangle
b1 = 6cm
h1 = 8cm
A1 = 1/2 * b * h = 1/2 * 6cm * 8cm = 24 sq cm
2) Find the area of the second set of congruent triangles
For each triangle
b2 = 6cm
h2 = 20cm
A2 = 1/2 * b * h = 1/2 * 6cm * 20cm = 60 sq cm
3) The area of the whole kite is 2 times the area of the top triangles, add to 2 times the area of the bottom triangles.
Akite = 2*A1 + 2*A2 = 2*24sq cm + 2*60sqcm = 48sq cm + 120 sq cm = 168 sq cm
So the area of the kite is 168 sq cm.
