Hi Candi,
To evaluate f(x), just substitute the number you are given into the appropriate expression given interval:
- f(1) = 1 + 4 = 5 Remember, you were given f(x) = x + 4, -1 < x < 2 Keep those intervals in mind.
- f(-5) = (-5)^2 + 1 = 26 Again, remember the interval f(x) = x2 + 1, x <= -1
- f(10) = 5 Value of f(x) would be the same for any x > =2
