asked 09/22/24Help Managing Data in Lightroom Classic Please!
Hi. I am a passionate amateur photographer focused on sports, wildlife and landscape photography. With thousands of images on my laptop, I have run out of capacity (2 TB drive) and can't import and process more pics. How do I save older files to an external drive and then delete them to free up space? Happy to shift this to a tutoring arrangement for the right person who can help me set up an effective workflow. Thx!

Hi, Jeffrey. I'm not sure if you're aware but the desktop/mobile version of Lightroom may be a good solution to someone who's run out of space. I'm not talking about Lightroom 'Classic'. Adobe has another version of Lightroom that is sometimes referred to as Lightroom Mobile or Lightroom Desktop. You can store your entire collection of images in the cloud with this and only leave whatever images you want to on your hard drive. There are a lot of different options to store your images. Personally, I store everything in the Adobe Cloud and only download what I need to work on in Photoshop or whatever. All your images can be available on all of your devices: desktop, laptop, phone, tablet. This is not extra software that you need to buy as it should already be part of your Adobe plan. Please reach out if I can help further! - Bret

Just to clarify, are you asking for how to move files from your current drive onto an external drive?
