Assuming line segment PQ is congruent to line segment QR (Q is the midpoint), then we can set the two algebraic expressions equal to each other and then solve for x:
2x + 1 = 5x - 44
-3x = -45
x = 15
To find PQ, substitute 15 for x in the expression for its length:
2x + 1
2(15) + 1 = 31
