“What inspired you to learn martial arts?” Early on, I would have to say, martial arts movies. In the movies, the plot was always very simple to follow. The protagonist was often some person just minding their own business, not looking for trouble, but when it came their way, there was no hesitation or fear. Our hero in the film would just beat the snot out of these bad guys, and that would be the end of that.

French Native ready to teach her language and Taekwondo
My dad pushed me into it around 7y.o. because I was bullied and quiet about it. I started Judo and practiced it for 4 years. Then my little brother wanted to do karate but the only martial arts club we had near by was a taekwondo club. After a lot of effort of the club's teacher, I tried it (I was 11 y.o. and still pretty shy) and never left it !
I found in this taekwondo club a second home and the teacher always made sure that we had a goal to work toward to. Didn't matter if it was competition or personal development. We always had something to reach. The taekwondo athletes were a big motivation, I wanted to reach their level ! I wanted to go to the Olympics, to South Korea to get my black belt.
The Korean Tigers were a huge motivations. They are amazing.
I may not have reach those end goals because life threw a curve ball, but even today all the martial arts I have practiced are a huge help in my daily life. Plus it allows me to redo the choreography fights from my favorite movies !

Seasoned executive with 2 engineering degrees & an MBA
Decades ago, I was seeking a physical activity that my entire family could learn and enjoy. Wife, me and three kids. All five of us earned our black belts; my wife and I earned ours together and a few years later all three kids earned theirs together. It turned out to be a huge benefit socially, for all of us. Our "karate family" consisted of children the same ages as ours, which led to lifelong friendships for all of us.
