How to find the volume

The gift shop at a science museum sells lollipops that are made to look like planets. Each lollipop is shaped like a sphere and has a radius of 12mm.

What is the volume of each lollipop? Either enter an exact answer on terms of π or use 3.14 for π

First.... do you know the formula for the volume of a sphere? If not, you need to write it down along with any other volume formula.

4/3 × πr³

^{r = the radius}

r = 12mm, is given info in the question.

So, 12 is cubed,

12³ = 1728

then multiply by π,

1728π = 5425.92

and then multiply by (4/3)

7234.56 mm³

volume = 7238.22846 mm^3 if radius = 12 mm

= about 7238 mm^3

which is a close approximation using pi=3.141593

but people often just use pi=3.14

then you get a less accurate solution of 7234.56

7238.22846 is far more accurate approximation than 7234.56

latter is off by almost 4 cubic millimeters

general formula is V=(4/3)pir^3

plug in 12 for r

and simplify

=(4/3)pi(12^3)

= 4pi(144(4)

= 2304pi mm^3 = exact answer
