To figure out how much material to make a basketball, you would need to know the surface area of a sphere. The formula is:
SA = 4πr2
The r is radius in the formula. Given the diameter is 17.5 cm, divide by 2 to get the radius. 17.5/2 = 8.75 cm
Plugging in the values
SA = 4(3.14)(8.75)2 = 961.6 cm2
