Assume that the readings at freezing on a patch of thermometers are normally distributed with a mean of 0°C, and a standard deviation of 1.00°C a single thermometer is randomly selected and tested. Find P7, 7th percentile. This is the temperature reading separating the bottom 7% from the top 93%.

mean = 0, s = 1, find 7th percentile where area to the left of z score = .07, -1.476 = z score

z degrees = -1.476 degrees C

z = (x- mean)/s = (-1.1476 -0)/1 = -1.1476

corresponding area under the normal curve to the left of z = -1.1476 is .07 = 7th percentile

use z calculator or z table, given it's a normal distribution
