How to determine the equation of an ellipse and its properties?

From the description of the problem, are you able to determine the equation of the ellipse and its properties?

As part of your determination, you can look up the general equations associated with an Ellipse centered and not centered at the origin in your text or online. Both Horizontal and Vertical Ellipses are typical and have associated equations the Ellipse could also be rotated or inclined. Using whatever information you are given relative to your Ellipse is typically helpful as you can plug in values given where applicable.

general standard formula for an ellipse is


(x-h)^2/a^2 + (y-k)^2/b^2 = 1


where (h,k) = center

and a = the semi horizontal axis, 2a = the horizontal axis

b = the semi vertical axis, 2b = the vertical axis


if the ellipse has some points or other ellipse info

you can plug in the values and solve for remaining unknowns
