Two friends are playing a game where on one turn you roll a six-sided die and pick one of three cards (red, blue, purple) to determine where you move. Find the probability of an odd number with a red card.

A six-sided die has 6 possible outcomes {1,2,3,4,5,6}, 3 of which are odd, so P(odd) = 3/6 = 1/2

 

P(red) = 1/3

 

These events are independent so the probability that they both happen is the product of the individual probabilities 

 

P(both) = (1/2)*(1/3) = 1/6
