The following information was gathered from online sources:
Normal boiling point of CCl4 at 760 torr = 350K
∆Hvap CCl4 = 29.82 kJ/mol
Clausius Clapeyron equation:
ln(P2/P1) = -∆Hvap/R (1/T2 - 1/T1)
∆Hvap = 29.82 kJ/mol
R = 8.314 J/Kmol = 0.008314 kJ/Kmol
P1 = 760 torr
T1 = 350K
P2 = 500 torr
T2 = ?
ln(500/760) = -29.82/0.008314 (1/T2 - 1/350)
-0.419 = -3587(1/T2 - 0.002860)
-0.419 = -3587/T2 + 10.26
-10.68 = -3587/T2
T2 = 336K
Converting to ºC
T2 = 336 -273 = 63ºC = 60ºC boiling point of CCl4 @ 500 torr (to the nearest 10º)
NOTE: you may get different answer if you use a different value of ∆Hvap and/or a different boiling point.
