A linear pair is defined as:
1. Two angles that share a common vertex.
2. The two angles that also share a common edge.
3. The sum of the measures of the two angles is 180 degrees.
If you look at a linear pair, you will see a straight line with a ray coming off a point of the line.
Clearly, not all supplementary angles can also be classified as linear pairs.
Finally, it is essential that you include the units, at least in your final answer. So, 129 degrees and 51 degrees, or 129° and 51°. The symbol is the preferred method.
I have known some teachers who would count the whole problem wrong if a student left off the units. After all, is there a difference between 10 cents and 10 dollars? Ten inches and 10 miles? 10 ounces and 10 tons?
