An element is the most basic form of matter, like carbon or sulfur. (Anything on the periodic table)
A compound is a combination of elements, like hydrogen peroxide and propane.
If we can separate substances easily, we have a heterogeneous mixture. If we have to use some sort of device or apply heat to separate a mixture, it is a homogenous mixture. All solutions are a homogenous mixture. A quick eye test can also help- a chocolate chip cookie is a heterogeneous mixture of chocolate chips and cookie batter; you can see the chocolate chips as separate from the cookie. Milk is a homogenous mixture.
Air- homogenous
Sea water- homogenous
Vodka- homogenous
Brass- an alloy of copper and zinc- homogenous
Blood- homogenous
