Hi Al,
The mean of a uniform distribution is given by: (min+max)/2.
In this case:
(0.13+0.17)/2= 0.15
The variance is given by:
((max-min)^2)/12
So:
((0.17-0.13)^2)/12=1.333×10^-4 or 0.0001

asked 09/07/23Thickness measurements of a coating process are made to the nearest hundreth of a millimeter. The thickness measurements are uniformly distrubuted with values 0.13, 0.14, 0.15, 0.16, 0.17. Determine the mean and variance of the coating thickness for this process. Rounded 4 decimal places.
