Picnickers see a lightning flash and hear the resulting thunder 9.0 s later. If the storm is traveling at a rate of 15 mi/h, then how long in minutes do the picnickers have to gather their things, before the storm arrives at their location?

Distance = Speed_(thunder) x time = 343 m/s x 9 ≈ 3087 m ~ 1.92 miles

Travel time = distance / V_storm = 1.92 / 15 mi/h = 0.128hrs ~ 7.7 minutes
