I assume Q is the midpoint between P and R.
Since Q is the midpoint, PQ=QR. Hence 3x+14=7x-10.
To solve for x, you need to move all the terms containing x to one side, and all the constants to the other.
Move 3x to the right, because it was plus 3x on the left side, it's now -3x on the right side. So now the right is 7x-10-3x=4x-10.
Now we have 14=4x-10. Move 10 to the left side. Since it was substract 10 on the right side, it's now plus 10 on the left, so now the equation is 24=4x.
Divide both sides by 4 to get x, and you get x=6.
