lenghth of angles

The longer leg of a right triangle is 7cm

 longer than the shorter leg. The hypotenuse is 9cm

 longer than the shorter leg. Find the side lengths of the triangle.

While it was good to say, "draw a diagram" and to point out the Pythagorean theorem and F-O-I-L, a significant "teachable moment" was missed by casually correcting an x to make it x^2. Learning includes the HOW TO chack and correct the process used !!
