x=152/8= 19
3y=42
y= 14
looks "reasonable" until you notice that's impossible
as then the angles sum to more than 360 degrees
the drawing is not to scale , misleading, and gives contradictory information
3y +146 = 180
y = (180-146)= 34/3 = 11 1/3
8x-6 + 42 = 180
8x = 38
x = 38/8 = 4 3/4
adjoining angles should sum to 180
opposite angles should be equal
but as drawn, that's impossible
maybe there's a misprint somewhere
there's a problem with the problem
146 + 42 = 188. they should sum to 180
if this is a Pearson type multiple choice 19 and 14 is probably what they want.
Pearson and some online test homework or questions have bugs in their computer programs
