Distance = Rate x Time.

Bus 1 travels for x hours at 60 MPH = 60x

Bus 2 travels for (x-1) hours at 72 MPH = 72(x-1)

They pass when those are equal: traveled the same distance.

60x = 72(x-1) = 72x - 72

72 = 12x

6 = x = the number of hours before they pass. It's 6 hours after the first bus departed.

60*6 = 360 miles

72(6-1) = 360 miles (to verify).

They passed 6 hours after the first bus departed, and it was 360 miles from the Old Towne Depot.
