Write a correctly balanced equation for the reaction taking place:
CuSO4(aq) + 4NH3 ==> Cu(NH3)4SO4
Using the density of NH3 as 0.860 g / ml, and the molar mass of NH3 of 17 g / mol, calculate moles of NH3:
mols NH3 = 24.0 ml x 0.860 g / ml x 1 mol / 17 g = 1.21 mols NH3 present
Use the stoichiometry of the balanced equation to find moles Cu(NH3)4SO4 formed:
1.21 mols NH3 x 1 mol Cu(NH3)4SO4 / 4 mol NH3 = 0.303 mols Cu(NH3)4SO4
